With the imminent arrival of a new Walsh child, we decided to move Emmett into his big-boy room before he starts feeling like a second class citizen.
We decided this, but his new room didn't exist yet.
So I've spent the last two weeks running around to various stores (big box and otherwise) to furnish and decorate what once was our office and create a new space for E-mot.
Regan is not a fan of themes and neither am I but I do like things to match. Also it's very hard to get items for a little kid's room that aren't covered in Disney characters or neon splashy blotches. So based on a local piece of art of a lighthouse made with clay that I bought a year ago, and Emmett's recent love of planes (not the movie, just the mode of transportation), we decided to go with something that I call Nautical/Aeronautical - yes, I'm that awesome. The room was already blue, so it worked out well.
I still have to put the doors back on the armoir that we inherited from my brother and get new drawer pulls (which is proving more difficult than I thought), but the majority of the work is done and Emmett has transitioned in there nicely. We left the books up from our office since we really have nowhere else to put them until we stop renting out the basement, and it comes in handy when we want to read Emmett a great bedtime story about computer programming or several anthologies of British literature.
In order to finish off the room I desperately want to get a blue canary night light to go with the lighthouse picture because of these guys, but the only guy I found who sells them online does not ship to Canada. If anybody has a line on a little bird please let me know.
*EDIT: Ask the Internet and she shall provide. Right after I posted this the guy who sells the blue canary night lights got back to me (finally!) and said he could ship one to Canada (not for too many dollars either). Huzzah! The lovely Amy also offered to craft us a glass one, so we have that as a wonderful option as well. Thank you Internet for not always being terrible.
Stuff: twin bed and armoir (hand-me-downs from my brother that I refurbished a bit); rocking chair - my old one from when I was a kid; black out blind - Lowe's; white decorative blind - IKEA; Bedspread and matching plane pillows - "Authentic Kids" from Homesense; small throw rugs - Winners; navy blue lamp - Winners; white dresser - Kijiji; 4xblue baskets - dollar store; blue and white baskets in armoir - Homesense; sheets - JYSK, Homesense and Winners; nautical blue and white stripped baskets under bed - Canadian Tire; Wall "art" prints - wrapping paper from Winners that I cut to fit existing frames; clay lighthouse art - from local artist Tina Lund; "Hoot" owl art burlap with hand stitched and painted details - from local home decor artists, bought at a neighbourhood festival; family photos on the wall - put in existing frames; canoe paddle - my dad's from Scout's Canada, was already in the room; teddy bear with blue jacket - gift from Granddad Walsh; missing West Jet stuffed airplane from Uncle Blair - it was on the bed but Emmett was playing with it before I took these photos and I didn't notice.
