I rarely re-watch things, unless of course they're really good or complicated and I'm likely to get something new out of a second or third viewing.
However, I've been thinking a lot about how there's this category or movies and tv that is very re-watchable but for totally perplexing reasons. I'm talking about anything that was ALWAYS on the Superstation when we were growing up. Things you didn't mind watching for the 8th time, or having it hacked apart by editors to fit in commercials, or picking up somewhere in the middle. Maybe it's because we were home sick, but how sick were we? John Hughes seemed to have a great knack for making these kinds of films.
Whatever these films or tv shows have, it has to be the same kind of magic as a viral video except that it endures, so it's maybe the opposite? Is it scripted writing that feels spontaneous? Is it the inverse of reality television (which I hope we can all agree is not even watchable, or at the very least not re-watchable) i.e. successful reality shows are cranked out in rapid-fire format, but they're not getting syndicated.
Regan is re-watching The West Wing for the 3rd or 4th time right now. I could watch all three seasons of Slings and Arrows over and over again (and I have because I show clips in class). What are your re-watchable classics? Do you prefer re-watching television shows or movies?
p.s. if you've never seen Eagle vs. Shark I recommend it as a re-watchable bit of awesomeness (but only if you were a fan of Napoleon Dynamite, otherwise you might hate it).
