The final bit of pre-baby cleaning that I'm trying to get done involves me selling our old large 4-drawer filing cabinet on Kijiji (done)! and putting our files into a new small 2-drawer filing cabinet that my mother gave us.
When my mom dropped the cabinet off this morning she also handed me a big red file-folder and said "here, these are yours and they were the only thing that was in this old filing cabinet".
Interesting. I don't remember having files as a teenager or small child.
What she meant was this is a file folder of your entire school and early working life.. enjoy the insane trip down memory lane. That's right - every report card and pay stub I ever received was kept and filed by my mother.
I haven't read through the whole thing yet, but I will say that teachers are shockingly on-the-ball with most of their comments (because I am a teacher now, I can easily read between the lines and I'm able to tell what the seemingly innocent critiques really mean).
So far only three things really stand out for me:
1) I was pretty bad at sharing and drama - "She interacts in a positive manner with her peers, although at times forgets the principles of equal sharing" - gr. 2 teacher
2) I got really good marks... like, way too high considering I don't even remember some of these courses.
3) I ended up with the HIGHEST mark in grade 9 Phys Ed.????? What the what? That has to be an error. In fact, generally I was expecting my phys ed. marks to S-U-C-K over the years, but apparently I have a willingness to learn that saved my ass. At least until grade 9 when I stopped taking it. Thank god.
I wonder what else I will find as I comb through this pile. I bet Regan will be thrilled to hear all about it!
EDIT: one more hilarious thing. I think my gr. 8 teacher was moonlighting as a real estate agent because he writes "History notebooks show efficient organization skills and a pride of ownership". That is all.
