I have just over three months left before I go back to work.
I've been thinking that I'd like to use my time (now that Emmett is sleeping and significantly easier to deal with) to learn something new. My dad always wanted me to learn the violin (or fiddle, actually - same instrument, different 'jam'), but I was never into it and when I started band in high school we were only offered wind instruments. I now have a rudimentary knowledge of the clarinet but I don't love it by any means. Perhaps I'd like a string instrument.
Of course this means I'd have to learn how to read music all over again, and then remember how to read music. Ugh.
I don't understand how people can play certain things without sheet music either. I don't think my brain works that way. Regan tried to explain it to me using knitting as an analogy: "You know, you start off using patterns but then you can just start making stuff up once you get comfortable". Um, no, I'm still on rectangles, thankyouverymuch.
I think it's important that Emmett is exposed to music and that he learns to play an instrument (if he wants to). All the brain development books I've been reading say it's an excellent way to help mold your kid into not-a-psychopath. I figure it couldn't hurt. And I thought maybe we'd have a more musical house if I learned to play something. I
