We took Emmett to Springwater Park again the other day.
I looks more and more likely that the closing date of March 31st is going to stick.. sadly.
The MNR has met with community groups and local municipalities and seems unwilling to consider any other options - including extending the closing date by a year so the community can try to prove that we can increase revenues and/or creating any kind of partnership to make it more profitable.
The most ridiculous part is that the operating costs for one year are about $250,000, but to remove all the buildings, picnic shelters, washrooms and animal enclosures is going to cost much, much more than that, I guarantee.
I hate a lot of things about this current provincial government, but I have little faith that any other party leading the way would make it any better. I hope in this case the people will prevail, but in a world where the elected leaders seem not to care at all about what the people want, it seems doubtful.
I encourage anyone who is familiar with this park to get involved, even if it's just writing a letter or email, or sign the petition here: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/601/328/093/save-springwater-park/
