This seems like a cost effective way to die in a fiery car crash. I can't wait to get mine. (yes, I know the idea isn't to use it while also driving, but really the image just invites the idea that one doesn't value his or her life, or the lives of others very much, but that Candy Crush is just really, really important.

Isn't Etsy great? It's filed with beautiful things that I want to buy, but can just look at and save my money instead. It's the ultimate window shopping rabbit-hole. Sometimes I forward jewelry to Regan with the not-so-subtle subject-line "I want this". I've heard it's important to be overly clear about your expectations with dudes. So far it's worked! yay! The other morning I came across a really pretty cuff bracelet, and then about 100 more that are similar. They seem a little pricey, but I like how simple and personal they are. Regan used to write me/text me haikus all the time when we were dating at Laurier and when I went to London for teachers' college. If one could fit, I think a haiku on one of these would be so lovely. Oh lordy, and let's not even talk about this page. So sparkly. Please note: Regan, I don't actually expect you to get me one of these, I really just wanted to share the the pretty thing. Somehow this has become his nickname and I rarely call him anything else. I'm worried the kid won't know his own name. Oh well. Tank it is. :)
It's official, I actually NEED to exercise. I mean, ok, so I always have probably needed to exercise. I'm not claiming to be some teenaged goddess with ridiculous metabolism. No, no. In fact I was never any of those things.... except teenaged. This morning though, I woke up with a literal pain in my neck. No, not Emmett, although he was jumping on the bed beside me. I actually have this horrible pain and I can't turn my head to the right. Amazing. I didn't sleep on it funny or turn really fast or anything. I just went to bed and woke up broken. Conclusion: I am old and broken. A similar thing happened to me about 5 or 6 years ago when I was backing the car out of the driveway. I turned around to look over the seat and wrenched my neck so badly that I screamed in pain and the neck muscle started to spasm. Yes, amazing. The problem that time was that I was young(er) and broken, that is: horribly out of shape. After I started exercising a couple times a week I started to feel much better (no spasms) and then I started to lose weight and gain muscle. Then I felt amazing (you know, actually amazing not sarcastic amazing). After that a wedding happened and then a couple of kids and here I am.... old and broken. History tells me the solution is to get off my ass and exercise. I suppose I'm going to have to do that. I really want to, I'm just so tired. Although clearly I won't be able to look after anybody if I can't even look to my right. How does Beyonce do it? I rarely re-watch things, unless of course they're really good or complicated and I'm likely to get something new out of a second or third viewing.
However, I've been thinking a lot about how there's this category or movies and tv that is very re-watchable but for totally perplexing reasons. I'm talking about anything that was ALWAYS on the Superstation when we were growing up. Things you didn't mind watching for the 8th time, or having it hacked apart by editors to fit in commercials, or picking up somewhere in the middle. Maybe it's because we were home sick, but how sick were we? John Hughes seemed to have a great knack for making these kinds of films. Whatever these films or tv shows have, it has to be the same kind of magic as a viral video except that it endures, so it's maybe the opposite? Is it scripted writing that feels spontaneous? Is it the inverse of reality television (which I hope we can all agree is not even watchable, or at the very least not re-watchable) i.e. successful reality shows are cranked out in rapid-fire format, but they're not getting syndicated. Regan is re-watching The West Wing for the 3rd or 4th time right now. I could watch all three seasons of Slings and Arrows over and over again (and I have because I show clips in class). What are your re-watchable classics? Do you prefer re-watching television shows or movies? p.s. if you've never seen Eagle vs. Shark I recommend it as a re-watchable bit of awesomeness (but only if you were a fan of Napoleon Dynamite, otherwise you might hate it). When I get some time I want to make everything pumpkin-based from The Pioneer Woman's website. I've been a fan of many of her recipes since long before she had a Food Network show. In fact, I've never seen the show but I enjoy her picture-based recipes and very searchable site. One of the first things I ever made was these pumpkin spice muffins with cream cheese frosting which are a) super easy to make and b) blow the Tim Horton's ones out of the water. They are not gluten-free or vegan friendly (sorry peeps) but they are amazingly delicious if you don't require one or both of those options. The picture doesn't do these puppies any justice. It must be the chilly air and feeling of fall we've been experiencing because without any indication that I was going to post this, Regan tuned to me the other day and said "Hey, remember those awesome pumpkin muffins? We need to make those again". Indeed we do. I've been searching around for good nursing bras for a large chested lady and I came across this great site: http://www.stackdd.com/2012/02/top-nursing-bras-and-tips-for-the-already-well-endowed-dd-mama-part-one-when-to-buy-and-sleep-nursing-bras/ The site covers bra and clothing issues for large-busted ladies during pregnancy and regular times too. If you've been struggling to find items that fit and look nice I would highly recommend the advice on this site. As it is, I happen to already own most of the nursing bras she ends up suggesting, but that just means great minds think alike. Apparently the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library at UofT has one of the copies of the First Folio on display until the end of the month.
I heard about it on Metro Morning here. I would love, love, love to get down and take a look at it, even though, like Matt Galloway's guest says, it's not that "rare" in terms of scarcity of copies. There's 200 or so kicking around. It's one of those things that I'd just like to see. To totally nerd out and check out all the s's that look like f's. So good. I just read this article about how MIT is hosting a breast-pump hackathon on September 20th and 21st. I haven't had to use a breast pump yet with this pregnancy, but I know from last time that the technology is certainly lacking. This is especially true if you want/need to purchase your own pump as many women in the States have to do and you aren't just renting a hospital grade pump (like I did). You can read about the moms behind the idea here, or check out the MIT site here. I am super curious to see what they come up with. Breast milk is really, really sweet (apparently) and high in fat and calories. It is also easily digested by babies, or at least more easily than formula. If you've never had a baby then you might not know that because of this, breast milk-fed baby poop smells sweet and certainly "mild" compared to solid food poops. My point is that, while it still looks disgusting, breast-milk baby poop smells exactly like the liquid butter they put on popcorn in movie theatres. Legit. Next time you're over you can smell my kid's butt and I will prove it to you. Also, you're welcome because now you probably won't ever want to eat popcorn at a movie theatre again (maybe you already didn't). |
